Blokus belongs to the board games/ video games of abstract strategy among indoor party games played by two or four players. Bernard Tavitian first invented it and a French company Sekkoïa first released it in the year 2000.

The board is divided in 20 rows and 20 columns making 400 squares on it. There are 84 game tiles or pieces in 21 shapes, with 4 of the same shape in 4 different colors - blue, yellow, red, and green. Blue moves first, followed by yellow, red, and green in that order.

The first piece of a color, when played, goes to one of the corners on the board. Further pieces, on playing, must touch at least one piece of the same color, but only corner to corner and never edge to edge.

If a player is not able to find an area to place her/his piece, s/he passes the move and the next player takes over. When no one is able to find any area to place any of their pieces, the game is declared over.

Score is counted by counting the number of squares in each player's unplayed pieces, for which the players lose their points. In case a player was able to play all her/his pieces on the board, s/he not only doesn't lose any points but also gets extra bonus to add to her/his score.

Funkitron developed a video game version named Blokus World Tour, releasing it in December 2007. The video version is faithful to the board game version, making a new video addition to the indoor party games. An online version of the game is also available on the net.

The game has won many awards, including the Mensa Select award and the 2004 Teacher's Choice Award.

Jenga comes from the family of board games of skill among indoor party games, played with blocks. The game is marketed by Hasbro and can accommodate almost any number of players starting from 1 to be the least. The name of the game is a derivative of the Swahili word kujenga meaning "to build".

There are 54 wooden blocks, each of which is 3 times longer than its width, the height being a little smaller than the width. The blocks are first stacked to form a tower with the help of a plastic loading tray by placing 3 blocks in one storey, their lengths touching together. Adjacent stories must have their block directions perpendicular to each other. The tower has 18 stories in it.

The players take their turns by taking out any one block from any one storey and placing it on the top using only one hand of his or hers. Once the turn is over, the next player waits for 10 seconds in order to check that the tower doesn't fall before s/he moves her/his block out of the stack of tower.

If the tower falls down, the game is considered over with the person during whose turn it fell being declared to be the loser. The person whose turn it was before the turn of the loser automatically becomes the winner of the game.

There are many variations of Jenga coming from the family of board games of skill among indoor party games available, mixing it with drinking, stripping, Truth or Dare, Casino and Throw 'n Go along with a video game version by Atari for the Nintendo Wii and DS consoles.

Zombies is a tile-based strategy game falling under board games/ video games category as indoor party games. The game is designed for 2 to 6 players to play as the case may be. Twilight Creations is also going to publish it as another addition to video games for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows.

The game develops along a zombie-infested town starting with the Town Square tile face up and 28 other town tiles shuffled into a pile, with the Helipad tile placed below all. The players' pieces are placed on the town square, and each one of them receives three life tokens and three bullet tokens.

As a player's turn comes, s/he places the topmost town tile adjacent to tiles that are already face up, matching the tiles in a proper, functional way. Along a tile two or more zombies are also placed on it with life tokens or bullet tokens for special locations provided as extra measures taken for their safety.

The aim of the players is to destroy a zombie that they share a square with on their way. A six-sided die decides how the player moves, using her/his life tokens and bullet tokens in emergencies.

The game is won either by the first player who kills 25 of them or by the first player who reaches the center square of the Helipad tile clearing it of any zombie there.

Boogie is one of the very popular music video games falling under party games in the music genre. The company named Electronic Arts developed the game for the Wii, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS consoles.

Players are given a choice to create their character. Once they have done, they use Wii Remote to sing and dance through the same character. They can choose between a karaoke and a dancing game to perform. SingStar is a series of competitive karaoke video games falling under party games in the video genre. The games were developed by London Studio for Sony Computer Entertainment to publish it for PlayStation 2 and later extended to PlayStation 3 in December 2007.

The games are sold in two different ways, either as software alone or along with two USB microphones - one red and one blue. They can also be connected to EyeToy camera in which the players can see themselves as they are singing with the microphones in their hands.

As the players sing along with music with their microphones, their console scores their points by analyzing their pitch - displayed as horizontal grey bars with corresponding lyrics displayed at the bottom of the screen - as it proceeds along with the words of the song they are singing, comparing it with that of the original track and electronically judging how accurate the singer is in his rendering of the song.

Pokemon video games are a series of role playing games played both as party games and single player games, published by Nintendo, which have already sold over 175 million units as of April 23, 2008. The development work is done by Game Freak and Creatures Inc. for new generation releases.

These video games were first created as role playing games by Satoshi Tajiri for the Game Boy. The new releases kept getting categorized under generations of chronological orders as and when new characters with new gameplay concepts kept getting introduced in the games. Currently the fourth generation is under progress in the franchise.

The first party games/ single player games in the series were Pocket Monsters Aka and Midori for the Game Boy in Japan. Guitar Hero is a series of music video games under Party Games. RedOctane, a subsidiary of Activision first published it on October 28, 2007 in North America with their first entry as Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. By now in all, six games have been released for game consoles while others are there for mobile phones and the Nintendo DS handheld gaming system.

The games have individual player modes as well as cooperative and competitive modes for two players making them extremely popular as party or individual games.

The gameplay is a rhythm game controlling frequency and amplitude through a guitar controller. The screen shows an extended guitar neck vertically on it whereas the frets are shown horizontal. As the song progresses, colored markers indicating notes travel down the screen; the note colors and positions representing the notes and positions of the five fret keys on the guitar controller.

The player is supposed to play the notes indicated on the computer screen by holding down the correct fret buttons and hitting the strumming bar in order to score points.

Pictionary (video game) falls under video party games in guessing word games of board games, in which 4 teams of unlimited players can participate either in "Regular Game" mode or in "Alternative Game" mode.

The game was introduced in 1990 by LJN Toys Ltd. and Pictionary Incorporated as an NES puzzle game that was designed by Software Creations Ltd. that wrote its software as well.

In the "Regular Game" mode, a "designated drawer" draws a picture on the topic that the computer assigns to her/him. If the team guesses the word correctly, the honor system gets activated to note the score. A virtual die is rolled telling how many squares on the screen board are to be moved. Whichever team reaches the finish space first, wins the game.

In the "Alternative Game" mode, the honor system doesn't get activated and the drawer her/himself decides if the guesses were correct or incorrect, which in this mode are done by all the teams and not only by one.
