Dirty Santa is one of the most common, popular and enjoyable Christmas party games and is invariably played at all the parties as Christmas arrives. It's actually more fun than game that deals with the suspense as to what is there in which gift packet that the guest participants themselves have brought with them at the party.
Everyone is going to get a gift but who gets what is the whole charm of the game. All the gifts are wrapped so no one knows what is there inside them. First the numbers of guest participants is counted and then as many pieces of paper are put in a hat on which numbers starting from 1, 2, 3...up to the number of guests present are written.
Now each of the guests draws one piece of paper from within the hat. First the person, who got the paper with number 1 written on it, chooses a gift from the pile for her/himself. Next the person who got the paper with number 2 written on it, either chooses a gift from the pile or 'steals' the gift that number 1 had chosen. Next comes number 3. S/he also has option of choosing a new gift from the pile or 'stealing either number 1's gift or number 2's.
It all continues without anyone knowing what they are putting their hands on till everyone has got a gift for her/him. You don't know what you are going to end up with. May be it's your own gift that you brought to the party, or it could be something you were really looking for.
Whatever, but the fun of Dirty Santa is much more than the value or the description of the gift, which makes it such a big hit among all the Christmas party games that are traditionally played!
