Jenga comes from the family of board games of skill among indoor party games, played with blocks. The game is marketed by Hasbro and can accommodate almost any number of players starting from 1 to be the least. The name of the game is a derivative of the Swahili word kujenga meaning “to build”.
There are 54 wooden blocks, each of which is 3 times longer than its width, the height being a little smaller than the width. The blocks are first stacked to form a tower with the help of a plastic loading tray by placing 3 blocks in one storey, their lengths touching together. Adjacent stories must have their block directions perpendicular to each other. The tower has 18 stories in it.
The players take their turns by taking out any one block from any one storey and placing it on the top using only one hand of his or hers. Once the turn is over, the next player waits for 10 seconds in order to check that the tower doesn’t fall before s/he moves her/his block out of the stack of tower.
If the tower falls down, the game is considered over with the person during whose turn it fell being declared to be the loser. The person whose turn it was before the turn of the loser automatically becomes the winner of the game.
There are many variations of Jenga coming from the family of board games of skill among indoor party games available, mixing it with drinking, stripping, Truth or Dare, Casino and Throw ‘n Go along with a video game version by Atari for the Nintendo Wii and DS consoles.
